What Headphones Does Sodapoppin Use?

September 10, 2018 By Sean2by4 Leave a Comment

what headphones does sodapoppin useWith just under a million subscribers, Sodapoppin is by far the least famous YouTuber we’ve taken the time to write about, but that’s probably because that’s not what he’s known for. Sodapoppin is one of the biggest World Of Warcraft Twitch streamers of all time. He’s known for his lovable personality and top-tier druid gameplay.

If you’ve spent time watching his stream, you may have found yourself asking: what headphones does Sodapoppin use? We did all the research to find the answer for you, as well as a review and our personal recommendations. We also figured out which microphone Sodapoppin uses and are going to share our opinion on that. So let’s get right into it!

What Headphones Does Sodapoppin Use Today?

As stated by the man himself, Sodapoppin is currently streaming using the Plantronics RIG 800 LX. As of the time we are writing this post, they are actually out of stock. If you insist on getting a similar headset, the closest thing you can get is the 800 HS. We linked to it anyways in case they restock.

Now we’re going to be honest, we don’t personally think this is the best headset for the money. We’re not entirely sure when he started using them, but we’re pretty certain that they were either given to him as a part of an endorsement deal, or as a gift. There are tons of headphones that are a better value, are more comfortable, or achieve a wider dynamic range.  As a top streamer, he can definitely afford them.

Because Soda plays games like World of Warcraft as opposed to shooters, he doesn’t necessarily need the most accurate soundscape or high fidelity. World of Warcraft Arena doesn’t require you to hear where gunshots are coming from, so any old headphones will do.

With all that being said, they’re also not a bad pair of cans either. They last up to 24 hours wireless (very impressive), and they feature Dolby Atmos sound. They’re lightweight, flexible, and durable enough to last you a long time.

Plus, Sodapoppin clearly thinks they’re comfortable enough to last during his marathon streaming sessions, otherwise we’re pretty sure he would have replaced them by now.

Bonus: What Microphone Does SodaPoppin Use?

Although his headphones do have a microphone, it is definitely not clear enough to be his primary audio recording device. For his main streaming microphone, Sodapoppin uses the same microphone we use to produce our videos, the Shure SM7b.

This microphone is also used by tons of massive radio shows, podcasts, and professional productions all over the world. Most recognizably, you may notice it is the same microphone used by the H3H3 podcast or The Breakfast Club. This microphone is perfect in these applications because it picks up very little excess noise aside from what is directly in front of it.

We record with it every day with loud yard work being done outside, or planes overhead, and almost none of it gets picked up. It’s really expensive, and requires a pretty decent preamp to properly drive it, but it is one of the best microphones you could ever buy, and you won’t need to replace it anytime soon.

In Conclusion…

Just because you have a massive following, doesn’t necessarily mean you need to have the best gear on the market. As they were good enough for him, you could certainly get yourself a pair of Plantronics, but the truth is he probably didn’t put a whole lot of thought into which headset he was buying.
