McJuggerNuggets is truly one of the most odd and unique channels on YouTube. Jesse Ridgway has impressively managed to transition from a few fake viral hits to producing several full fledged “shows” with a dedicated audience of 3.7 million subscribers. Delicately innovating in the space between scripted television and vlogs, he is an inspiration to thousands of young creators.
So what camera does McJuggerNuggets use to create his wacky shows? We did all the research to figure out what cameras he’s used over the years, and whether or not you should consider purchasing them for yourself. Let’s get right into it!
What Camera Does McJuggerNuggets Use Today?
Throughout the last few years, the primary camera Jesse has used to record his YouTube videos is the Canon EOS 70D. As of late 2018, it’s a bit dated, but it is still an excellent camera that has contributed to the rise of many huge YouTubers.
The 70D is the perfect entry-level DSLR for anybody looking to make skits like McJuggerNuggets. It has excellent auto-focusing for recording videos, shoots in full HD, and features the excellent color space that canon is so famous for. It even has a flip-out screen that makes it perfect for selfie style shooting, although the skits that Jesse produces usually have a dedicated cameraman.
What Other Cameras Has McJuggerNuggets Used?
Ocassionally when not using the 70D, Jesse makes his videos using the Canon G7x Mark II, the compact camera of choice for nearly all YouTube vloggers.
The quality is ever so slightly below that of the Canon 70D, but what it lacks in fidelity, it more than makes up for in terms of form factor. This camera is small enough to fit in your pocket, while providing quality on par with cheap DSLRs like the Canon Rebel series.
The zoom functions are great, the price is really affordable, and the only real drawback is that you won’t be able to change the lens out to achieve different focal lengths.
You can see Jesse using the camera in the video (and thumbnail!) below. It appears that he is using it with a cheap mini-tripod, usually included in a camera bundle.
Despite being an older camera, the quality that Jesse is able to get out of the Canon 70D is quite remarkable. We would like to note that he is successful because of his impressive creativity and commitment to making realistic and entertaining skits.
When he first started out, he grabbed whichever camcorder was laying around his house – he didn’t wait to have a 70D to start filming. If you want to be as successful as him, we suggest you do the same!
