David Dobrik has managed to gather over 8.5 million subscribers in the short 4 years that he’s been on YouTube, and almost 3 billion views. His unique comedy style mixed with his previous relationship to viral superstar Liza Koshy was a recipe for him to have great success of his own.
What camera does David Dobrik use to make all of this happen? We did all the research to figure out what camera he uses, and whether or not it’s a good fit for you.
What Camera Does David Dobrik Use Today?
After a little bit of digging, we uncovered that as of 2018, David Dobrik is currently using the Canon EOS 80D DSLR camera.
The 80D is an affordable mid-range powerhouse very popular among tons of different YouTubers including Casey Neistat and Jenna Marbles. The body usually goes for about $1000,
It features a 45-point, dual pixel Autofocus system (important for vloggers), a 24.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, high dynamic range, and up to 1080p at 60fps.
Other features that make the 80D very vlogger friendly include the Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities and the touch screen. The Wi-Fi connectivity makes transferring your footage very easy, and the touch screen can be pulled out and tilted at almost any angle. This is important, as it’s very helpful to be able to see yourself and frame your shot while pointing the camera at your face.
Canon cameras are typically a great fit for YouTubers because of their cost-to-value ratio. You would be really hard pressed to find a camera this good at this price range. Our favorite vlogging camera is the A7s ii, but that costs over three times as much.
David Dobrik has proven that you don’t need to splurge on a $3000 A7sii like Jake Paul to gather billions of views. The 80D works fine for him and is an easy recommendation for anyone looking to get in on the YouTube game.
As always, we’d like to remind you that the content you create is much more important than the camera you use. Many YouTubers have struck it big with just a smartphone. Just because David Dobrik used the 80D, doesn’t mean you have to.
