With over 5.5 million YouTube subscribers and an equally impressive 5 million followers on Instagram, Conner Franta is a very impressive creator and influencer. His content is very aesthetically pleasing, and he’s even managed to write a New York Times selling book.
So what camera does Conner Franta use to communicate with his very passionate fanbase? We did all the research to figure out which camera he’s currently using, along with a history of the other devices he has used. Let’s get right into it!
What Camera Does Conner Franta Use Today?
As of right now, Conner is using the Canon EOS T6i, the cheapest DSLR currently offered by Canon. If you’re in the market for a camera used by one of your favorite YouTubers, this is definitely an option you can afford.
Considering the size of his fanbase, we were pretty surprised. We thought that Conner could use a much more expensive camera, but it appears that he’s making the most out of what we would consider to be a budget DSLR.
The T6i sports a 24.2 Megapixel sensor, 19 point autofocus, and is capable of shooting full 1080p mp4 files. It’s an excellent cheap alternative to one of the most popular vlogging cameras of all time, the Canon 80D. Although the image quality and the auto focus fall a bit short, the front-facing screen and relatively small form factor make this an excellent camera for self-shooting.
However, because Conner mostly sticks to talking to the camera directly, and doesn’t walk around and “vlog” in the traditional sense very often, the inferior auto focus is less of a big deal. We suggest you think about whether this is important to you before purchasing your camera.
Finally, Canon cameras have a great color profile, and Conner definitely uses it to his advantage by incorporating very pleasant color schemes throughout his videos.
What Other Cameras Has Conner Franta Used?
About one minute in to the video below, you can see that Conner owned the T3i, a Powershot 330, and a Canon AE-1 film camera. Throughout the years he has stuck with the rebel series, and for good reason. If you’re not a serious videographer or filmmaker, a cheap DSLR is all you really need.
In the video, he mentions that the main camera he used to run his Instagram was his iPhone. We’ve stated several times in the past that we think newer smartphones are excellent options for starting your vlogging career. Conner’s Instagram is very impressive, and perhaps seeing it may persuade you to get out there and making the most of your phone.
The Powershot is pretty obselete at this point unless you’re going for a retro aesthetic, the T3i is discontinued, and the film camera is strictly for artsy Instagram photos. However, If you’re looking for another small form factor camera like the 330, we recommend the Canon G7x. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket, and the image quality is able to compete with cheaper DSLRs.
Conner Franta is the perfect example to show you that you don’t need to spend a ton of money on your camera to get a nice one, or build a subscriber base. The T6i is about as affordable as it gets if you’re looking for a device with interchangeable lenses.
The reason why Conner has been able to be so successful with such budget film gear is because of his skill and personality. He has spent a lot of time developing his charisma, and he knows how to shoot, light, and edit to get the most out of his camera. We suggest you worry more about improving those skills before investing a ton of money into your equipment.
