21 Brilliant YouTube Video Ideas For Beauty Gurus

Without further ado, here’s our list. We even included video examples we thought were strong to give you an idea of what your content should strive for.

1. Hauls

Just about the most popular type of video across fashion and make-up YouTubers.

Women love shopping, and haul videos allow them to learn about new products, understand your taste, and live vicariously through you!

Plus it’s a great excuse to go shopping!

2. Outfits Of The Day

This is a great way to get some easy, high value content out there quickly to keep your channel active. Especially if your channel is more fashion-focused.

On a day when you are especially proud of your clothing choices, make a quick, short OOTD video!

Definitely don’t post one of these every day. Save that for Instagram. Once a week or less is an appropriate amount.

3. Creative DIY’s!

Alright, everyone has seen a thousand videos on how to properly apply lipstick and do your natural eyebrows. If you have any creative make-up ideas that you’re really proud of, break them down into an easy understand format, and turn it into a video!

Try to do something that’s never been done before, and if you can’t come up with anything that’s never been done before, do something someone else did better! High effort content will always be rewarded.

4. My Routines

This is a great one. Everybody has a totally different routine, and if you are really beautiful, girls are going to want to copy what is clearly working for you.

Great examples include:

  • My Morning Routine
  • My Fitness Routine
  • My Evening Routine
  • Day In My Life

Tip: Save this for one for when you are beginning to have a steady passionate following. People only want to see the routines of people they care about.

5. What’s in my ___

Practically every beauty guru does the round with this series of videos. These are great, especially if you think that some of the items you carry along with you are unique, and stand out from the crowd.

Here’s a solid list of things you can explore with your audience.

  • Backpack
  • Travel Kit
  • Make-up Bag
  • Purse
  • Phone

6. Product Reviews

This is the bread and butter of every beauty guru channel. There’s a ton of products out there that need reviews.

Just because a product has already been reviewed doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother! Watch the videos of the competition. Did they leave anything out? Was their video unnecessarily long? Could you present it in a more entertaining fashion?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you have a golden opportunity to outrank their video. For each product you plan on reviewing, do research beforehand on YouTube and google to look for niches that have openings for your content.

Once your channel starts to get some clout, you’ll even start getting products in the mail for free!

Tip: Make sure to always be completely honest in your reviews, and to attach appropriate disclaimers when doing paid ads.

7. Tutorials

Along with product reviews, tutorials also make up the bulk of the beauty guru video market. While you shouldn’t just blindly copy what’s working for everyone else, the tutorial framework provides a lot of different opportunity.

There are many tutorial sub categories you can explore for your channel. Here’s a few we really like.

  • Tutorials For Beginners
  • Ultra-Low-Budget Tutorials
  • Seasonal Tutorials (Discussed in more detail in #14)
  • Tutorials For Beginners

8. Q&A Videos

Especially once you start to gather a following, Q&A videos are an excellent well of engaging content that will almost never run dry. Post on all your social media profiles letting people know they can tweet/comment questions at you to be answered in your next video.

Pick the best, juiciest ones, answer them in the video and put the questions in the title for increased click-ability.

Pro tip: Ask this at the beginning/end of one of your videos too! It will encourage engagement, which is one of the easiest ways to help get your YouTube videos seen.

9. Doing My ____’s Make-up/Hair/Etc

Recently there has been a surge in the popularity of putting others in embarrassing situations. Doing your boyfriend’s (or other similarly inappropriate acquaintance’s) Make-up is a great way to make some super engaging, funny content while also having a good time in the process.

Here’s a few examples of people you could ask to help you out with this!

  • My Dog
  • My Boyfriend
  • My Dad
  • My Grandpa
  • My Boss

As you can tell, the more outrageous you can get with the person, the more people are going to want to click on your videos. Nobody cares about you doing some random other chick’s hair. If you have a super-macho boyfriend however, you can get a pretty juicy thumbnail of him wearing some eyeliner. 1111

10. Favorite Of The Month

Here’s at least one monthly video you can always do to help fill in your content gaps. Favorite of the month videos are a great way to showcase all your favorite products in any given month. If you didn’t use any new products, skip the month!

People love these videos, and they’ll always be there for you to fall back on. What, are you gonna run out of months?

11. Trying Cheap/Expensive Products

Sure, as new products go through popular phases you can try them and showcase them, but here’s a great way to easily find some great content to make

  • TRYING THE CHEAPEST FOUNDATION ON AMAZON
  • TRYING THE LOWEST RATED LIPSTICK
  • THE MOST EXPENSIVE CONCEALER ON AMAZON??

These, or similarly phrased concepts are guaranteed to play on people’s curiosity and land you some views. Don’t forget to add your own personal flavor and share your opinions on the value of the products.

12. Trying Weird Products

Kind of tying in with our last example, in addition to extremely cheap and expensive products, you can also try weird products out! Just use Google and YouTube to discover some trending weird products.

You just have to be willing to put snake feces on your face…

You’ll literally never run out of weird products to try, and the crazier ones will be sure to make people need to click on your videos.

13. Tours

Unless you’re one of those hoarders living in a giant pile of junk, your viewers will be very curious to see the inner workings of your life. By giving people a tour of your room, house, car, or otherwise personal space, you can increase the intimacy of your relationship with your viewers and form a stronger connection with them.

Just be careful not to accidentally divulge too much personal information and end up with a few stalkers.

14. Holiday Styles / Seasonal LookBooks

With how many big holidays there are, this idea is the gift that keeps on giving. All you need is the ability to produce outfits that embody the different seasons and holidays!

Feel free to use pinterest, instagram, and even other YouTubers for inspiration for your looks. Just make sure you’re also making them your own!

Plus, fashion and style is always evolving, so you’ll likely be able to revisit the same season with different ideas in future years.

15. Celebrity Styles

If you have serious talent as a fashionista or make-up artist, you’ll have some real potential with these videos.

There are millions of girls out there trying to imitate Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, so if you can accurately recreate them, and other celebrities, there will be a massive amount of views for you to reap.

Celebrity styles are always changing, so this will be an endless, overflowing cup of juicy content.

16. What I Got For ___

Your birthday, Christmas, Anniversary or graduation will all bring with them many video opportunities already. You might not have known however, that you can milk them even harder!

Whenever you’re receiving a bunch of gifts, feel free to cover all of the items you got while showing your gratitude! If you thought people loved living vicariously through your shopping, wait til you see how excited they get over you getting free stuff.

Tip: Feel free to flip the script and show your audience what you bought other people for Christmas too! Make em think you’re generous!

17. Reacting To (Old Stuff)

If you were super-cringe in high school, this is the best category for you. In recent times, we’ve noticed a trend of popular videos in which YouTubers analyze and react to relics from their own personal past.

Old yearbook photos, scrapbook photos, Myspace profiles, and home movies are all excellent choices. Remember, the more embarrassing it is, the more your audience is going to love it. Plus, being embarrassed is one of the best ways for you to be genuine and keep it real.

If you’ve been a YouTuber for many years, you can even make a video of you reacting to your earlier videos!

18. Trying Other People’s Tutorials!

We’ve noticed a recent trend in videos that featuree make-up gurus (Or regular YouTubers) following the tutorials of other make-up gurus. It’s a chance for some majorly comedic moments as you struggle to achieve a look that a fellow YouTuber insisted was easy.

Try your best, but remember, it’s funniest if you completely butcher the intended result.

19. Vlogs! (For The Important Stuff)

Unless you are an established personality, nobody is going to care to see you do daily vlogs. Even if they do, it’s usually best to keep your daily vlogs separated on their own devoted vlogging channel so that you don’t dilute your feed with them.

However, when you do special things that will grab your audiences attention, definitely vlog and upload it! Special vacations, conventions, and otherwise important events can make for a very interesting vlog-styled video.

Maybe you’re going to a wedding? Turn it into a great vlog with bonus tutorials on how you chose to do your makeup/outfit for the occasion!

20. Challenges

Viral challenges like the ice-bucket, one-chip, or mannequin challenge (NOT THE TIDE POD CHALLENGE) were all great events that allowed many people to cash in on a large stream of views.

You should definitely keep an eye out for new ones as the arise so that you can participate. However, in the mean time, there’s plenty of other non-viral challenges you can develop as well.

  • 3 Minute Make-Up Challenge
  • No Shampoo For A Week Challenge
  • Sustainable Living Challenge
  • Fitness Challenges

You’ll add a layer of suspense to your channel, and increase investment from your viewers. Plus, these are always a lot of fun to make!

21. Top 5 Lists

Everyone loves to do top 10 lists, but, as you may be able to tell from our Buyer’s Guides, we favor top 5 lists. 10 Items usually makes for a pretty watered down list. Nobody wants to sort through more than 5 products.

You can review make-up products, hair care products, fashion brands, almost anything. Just make sure your top 5 guides are actually informative and helpful, and not just a waste of people’s time.

If you really want to feature more than 5 of any given thing, feel free to make the number whatever number you want. The point is avoid watering down your content by artificially including things to meet a number quota.

Bonus Tip: Rather than ranking 1 through 5 in your list, try to show 5 of the best products for different markets! For example, “#1, best fancy lipstick” “#2, best cheap lipstick”. This ensures the entire video can offer the maximum value to the most people.

Bonus Beauty Guru Channel Ideas And Tips

For a complete guide on what you need to get started, check out our guide to starting a beauty youtube channel!

Here’s some bonus advice you should apply to the above video ideas to guarantee their success!

Analyze The Competition

Don’t worry about how successful the competition is, focus on yourself. However, you should definitely pay attention to what they are doing to get an idea of what is working.

By using Youtube’s filtered search features, you can see what videos have been performing well recently, and use their videos to inspire similar ones of your own.

beauty guru tips
Simply search for a related keyword, and check what is relevant/getting views in the last week.

If some trends or topics happen to be going viral, you can easily provide your own value and piggyback off of their success.

Tip: Just don’t completely rip them off. Make your own content, just use them for inspiration, and steal their juicy high-volume keywords.

Begin Having A Weekly Schedule

Having a consistent upload schedule is an important tip we highlighted in our guide to getting the most views. Choose a couple of the suggestions mentioned above and turn them each into a series of videos people can come to expect regularly.

Not every video type has to be tied to a date, but by getting into a regular schedule you can increase the consistency of your viewers when they come back to your channel to catch the latest installment of Celebrity Look Thursdays.

Give Your Series Names And Thumbnails!

This is an essential part of proper branding, and will create a chain reaction of upward momentum for your channel. Use the examples above to draft 5-7 different series for your channel, give them cool unique names tied to your personality and start hammering away at your content.

Similar to the previous tip, having uniform style increases the production value of your channel and will allow you to make the most of your viewers. Unique names will also help!

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone. Maybe.

You may have noticed in our article that several times we had specific recommendations for beauty gurus that were centered around hair, make-up, or fashion.

It’s great for you to be a strong authority in a small niche, and is a great strategy for long term success.

But, at the same time, if you really want to be able to put out as much quality content, eventually you’ll need to expand out of your comfort zone and tackle videos that aren’t necessarily in your field of interest.

Do make sure to play close attention to the response from your audience. If you’re a hair YouTuber that starts putting out fashion tips and you are met with tons of dislikes, maybe it’s a sign you should stick with what they like.

Ignoring the voice of the audience has taken down bigger channels than yours.

In Closing…

With these YouTube video ideas for beauty gurus, you should be able to craft a great content schedule for at least the next year. If you think of any excellent ideas you think would be a solid addition to the list, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and let us know! We read them all!
